Let’s be honest – we’ve all been there. January 1st rolls around, and suddenly we’re promising ourselves that THIS is the year we’ll post on social media every day, write weekly blogs, and finally master TikTok. By February, we’re back to posting whenever we find the time.
I’ve seen this pattern repeat itself countless times over my career, both in big corporations and small businesses.
The good news? There’s a better way.
The Problem with Most Marketing Resolutions:
They’re too ambitious, too vague, or both. “Post more on social media” isn’t a resolution – it’s a wish without a plan.
Here’s what actually works:
1. Start Small (Really Small)
Instead of “I’ll post every day,” try “I’ll post every Tuesday at 10 AM.” One consistent post a week beats seven random posts that peter out by Valentine’s Day.
2. Build Systems Not Goals
Don’t rely on motivation – it’s fickle. Create a system instead. Think of your marketing system as a series of repeatable processes, like:
- Schedule Fixed Times
- Block specific time slots in your calendar
- Example: Every Monday 9-10am for social media, Wednesdays 2-3pm for email marketing
- Treat these like client meetings – they’re non-negotiable
- Create Templates & Checklists
- Social media post templates
- Email newsletter outline
- Monthly report framework
- Social media checklist (you can download mine here!)
- Set up Triggers
- After monthly sales report → plan next month’s content
- Every Thursday → review next week’s scheduled posts
- After client meeting → update CRM and set follow-up
- Automation Tools & Shortcuts
- Content scheduling tools
- Email autoresponders
- Analytics automated reports
- Keyboard shortcuts/text expanders
3. Track What Matters
Stop obsessing over vanity metrics like follower count. Focus on metrics that drive real business growth, like leads and sales!
