As a marketer who has been navigating the ever-changing landscape of the digital age, I recently found myself at a crossroads when it came to the role of artificial intelligence, particularly ChatGPT, in my profession. Is this advanced technology an invaluable asset that can supercharge my efforts, or does it pose a potential threat to the role of marketers like myself?
Rather than viewing ChatGPT as an all-encompassing asset or a looming threat, I believe its value lies in using it as a tool to complement human creativity and expertise. AI can handle repetitive and data-driven tasks, freeing marketers to focus on strategic thinking, relationship-building, and crafting unique narratives. I have personally been using ChatGPT to help my clients achieve their marketing goals over the past few months, and have found it to be a powerful ally.
Brainstorming partner
A key success factor in marketing today is producing fresh and engaging content consistently. Whether it’s coming up with interesting blog topics, crafting compelling ad copy, or writing engaging social media posts, a marketer’s creativity is constantly solicited. I have found ChatGPT to be a solid brainstorming partner. With its ability to generate a multitude of ideas nearly instantly, it was able to give me a fresh perspective and help spark new ideas, and since brainstorming can be a timely endeavour, it also streamlined the process and proved to be a big timesaver. That said, I also found that whatever ChatGPT produced always required some reviewing, reworking, and refining to get the final result to be public ready. This to me is reassuring, proving that human intervention is still needed and the value the human touch adds is undeniable.
Backup data analyst
Numbers tell a story, and as marketers, it’s our job to decipher that story to make smart decisions. On a few occasions, ChatGPT helped me identify valuable insights from a data set that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. It also acted as a reviewer, double checking numbers and insights that I’ve extracted.
Solid translator
Working in Quebec means that I’m often working in both English and French. ChatGTP has proven to be a solid translator. Once again, I have found that I needed to spend some time reviewing, correcting, and editing the output, to make sure it meets my standards for being public ready. But as a whole, it was a huge timesaver, doing a bulk of the task and allowing me to focus on the polish.
Trend tracker
The world of marketing moves very quickly, with trends and technologies constantly evolving. I’ve been using ChatGPT to keep track of the latest industry news, emerging trends, and competitor strategies to keep me at the top of my game.
Being a good marketer means being able to react, adapt and optimize. We do this everyday in the campaigns that we run. AI is one of those curveballs that we must react to. I chose to integrate it into my toolkit and use it to optimize my productivity, efficiency and creativity. While AI can never replace the human touch in marketing, it can empower us to amplify our impact. It’s up to us to use it intelligently and ethically.
